What happens if my hearing aid gets wet?

Feb 26, 2024

Moisture is the hearing aid’s enemy. The good news is that newer, prescriptive hearing aids are moisture resistant. Rigorous steps are taken in the manufacturing process to assure that a bit of moisture won’t stop your hearing aids from running right.

There’s no need to worry if you get caught in a downpour or accidentally jump into the shower and start shampooing your hair. Remove your hearing aids and wipe them off with a dry towel.

Submerging your head in the bathtub, diving into a pool, or dropping the hearing aid in the snow after a day of skiing, well, that’s a different story. If your Audiologist has a Redux drying system, you are in luck. Our Redux units have saved many hearing aids from an expensive manufacturer’s repair.

If you wear custom molded in the ear hearing aids, consider purchasing an electronic dryer. Using an electronic dryer on a daily every day will help to maintain the hearing aid’s performance and keep them moisture free.

If your hearing aids get wet and you aren’t sure what to do, it’s best to bring them to your Audiologist. A thorough inspection, professional drying, and electroacoustic measures will be completed to assure that your hearing aids are performing as they should.
