COVID-19 has affected many of the businesses around us. We were shocked when Hearing Health Care Center in Glenview permanently closed in April. Sadly, two Audiologists, Donna Lauschke, M.A. and Elizabeth Malone, M.A. were forced out of jobs that they were very passionate about.
Last month, a second announcement took us by surprise. Advocate Lutheran General Hospital closed their Adult Audiology department. Two veteran Audiologists, Marianne Baltowski, M.A. and Dru Geraghty, M.S. were given only a few weeks notice. I was employed there mid-career for 17 years, and the dedicated staff remained unchanged.
We have been lucky to take many new patients into our fold due to these unforeseen circumstances and appreciate their trust in our care. For many, it is difficult starting new relationships, especially when you have been happy and are forced to make a change.
It is bittersweet knowing that the loss of employment has us with a stream of new patients. As a practice that sees private pay patients we are grateful for the opportunity for growth, but we are sad for the way these patients are coming through our door. We owe thanks to each of the Audiologists for recommending our practice for continuity of care. We promise to take special care of each and every one.
Sincerely,Audiology Associates of Deerfield
