Protect Your Hearing For The 4th Of July!

With the 4th of July approaching, here’s my plug for ear protection, (no pun intended). This is a time when you know that you will be watching fireworks, so don’t forget to pack ear plugs. And use them!

It doesn’t take much to destroy your hearing. There are written formulas for how loud sound needs to be and how long it takes before the damage is done. But the point is, losing your hearing from noise exposure is preventable. It’s your job to do something about it.

It’s also matter of putting ear plugs in the right way. An Audiologist can show you how. If what you’ve tried in the past isn’t comfortable, earplugs come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Ear protection can be custom made so really, there are no excuses for fit or comfort.

One of our colleagues in Bloomington Illinois is offering free ear protection for anyone who stops by her office before July 3rd. What a great idea! I’m sure that any Audiology practice would be happy to do the same. In our practice we have jars and boxes of disposable ear plugs and we give them away like the dentist hands out toothbrushes and floss.

Earplugs are cheap. Getting back your hearing comes at a high price. Ask any hearing aid wearer. Nothing can replace your original set of ears. Protect the pair you’ve got.
